Digital Sport Summit
Lava was delighted to be a Silver Sponsor of the Digital Sport Summit, Ausralia’s premier sport and digital media event held at the MGC on July 7th. The event was a huge success, and featured an outstanding combination of speakers including Jeramie O’Brien – Vice President, Digital at the Phoenix Suns (NBA), and Alana Fisher – Manager, Digital & Social Media, Australia’s FIFA World Cup Bid (Football Federation Australia).
There was an insight into how NBA clubs are using social media such as Twitter & Facebook to build a closer body with its fan base, and to get them interacting directly with the club and its players. This has also raised some interesting organisational and ethical challenges, such as not providing too much information, such as team tactics and injuries, potentially influencing betting. Policy adjustments have been made accordingly, to balance privacy with a reasonable amount of player access.
The FFA is using social media to build momentum behind Australia’s 2022 Cup bid. The beauty of Facebook is its snowball networking effect, with the bid Fan Page having over 170,000 fans within months. The FFA used the Socceroos campaign as a perfect launching pad for their 2022 Cup campaign, by providing direct access to team news.
