The Brief

The Bureaux has some of Australia's best business lounge facilities. Much like the way the Virgin Lounge works at airports, Bureaux is a vastly enhanced version with terrific facilities including conference rooms, a library, a fully catered café, and much more. Lava loves their setup, especially their cool artwork, relaxed lounge vibe and yummy food!

They came to Lava wanting a full refresh of their existing site. In particular, they wanted a site that was much more in-tune with their offering. A particular focus was to create a site that balanced polish with a real sense of warmth and an inner city atmosphere. Bureaux's fabulous artwork collection acted as another inspiration, along with its contemporary and artistic décor.

The project is Stage 1 of an ongoing development. Stage 1 required a main (public) site, a CMS, and an integrated e-News system. It needed to include some e-commerce relating to membership registrations and meeting room bookings. This will provide the perfect launching point for the subsequent Stages of development, with the goal of creating a total virtual office.

Lava’s Solution

The Lava team is just so proud of the Bureaux site visual design. We feel it's probably one of the best we've done, albeit for a relatively simple site in terms of size and functionality. The buzz and energy of city life is conveyed through images and movement, and a primarily black and white colour palette with sporadic touches of red and yellow. A 'blurry lights' imagery is used in the background to set a sophisticated tone, and provide a strong contrast with the predominantly black or white foreground.

Whilst some stock photography were used, the highlights belong to amazing city-scape shots taken by Melbourne-based photographer, Con Hionis. The Lava team was blown away by his photos, made up of 360-degree panoramic stitched together using some 'whiz bang' post-production software - apparently involving lots of hours. The composition and attention to detail are stunning.

The Stage 1 Bureaux site is essentially a promotional site with some basic member renewal forms where the credit card details are captured via a secure digital certificate (SSL). Other highlights include a simple Flash-based Interactive Map, and a Gallery Slideshow to give the user an insight into the facilities at each Bureaux location around Australia. The Lava CMS was provided, including management of membership registrations, as well as the Lava e-News Builder. This is will be used for most client communications and to promote weekly events.

Lava has set up the site navigation, and has the database in place in the back-end, to enable a significant evolution of the Bureaux site in subsequent development stages. Stage 2 is likely to involve more dynamic meeting status and room booking facilities, and Stage 3 will focus on a move to a full virtual office setup including file storage, live chat, etc.
