KeepCup
KeepCup came to Lava early in 2010 wanting a full redevelopment of its online setup. They wanted to give users an interactive and highly custom experience, and enable marketing activities such as promotional codes, and a 'Buddy' system. The 'Design my KeepCup' feature is one of Lava's finest online solutions. The user can alter the colours on a 3D cup instantly similar to NikeID.
The Brief
KeepCup has made a huge impression since launching its first products in 2009, with extensive media coverage, a laundry list of ‘name’ corporate clients, and featured in shopfronts worldwide. The KeepCup’s are designed by leading industrial design firm CobaltNiche. The cups are beautiful, highly functional and re-usable, designed to reduce wastage and the resulting environmental impact of disposable cups. And, the best bit is that users can fully customise their cup!
KeepCup came to Lava early in 2010 wanting a full redevelopment of its online setup. They wanted to give users an interactive and highly custom experience, and enable marketing activities such as promotional codes, and a ‘Buddy’ system. Lava’s role was to provide the accompanying, custom built back-end online management system, and enable this to integrate with KeepCup’s CRM.
The ‘Design my KeepCup’ feature is one of Lava’s finest online solutions.
Lava’s Solution
The KeepCup website design is clean and simple, so as to make the cups the focus for users. The KeepCup branding blue colour is predominant, complemented with other pastel colours. Custom shot photography was used in selected sections, with shots of both the stand alone cups, and more environmental shots such as the cups being held by a person in a park or on a tram, and also showing them in use when attached to a café espresso machine.
The absolute showpiece of the new site is the ‘Design my KeepCup’ feature. Lava took 3D renders of the KeepCup from CobaltNiche, then animated these to show the cup in different states (e.g. 360 degree spin, plug twist, etc.). User can interact with the cup, by selecting a custom colour for each aspect of the cup (e.g. lid colour, band, plug, etc.). These selections are instantly applied to the 3D cup, and users can continue this process until they are satisfied with their selection. In many respects, this functions in a similar way to the NikeID site, where users can select a shoe, then customise it and submit an order to be custom built. User are also presented with pre-set colour options, is they want a simpler experience. The colours available are dynamically pulled out of the management system that Lava built for KeepCup, and they can add and remove these via HEX numbers.
One a user has made their selection, they are able to proceed through a fully integrated online payment process. Lava provided a promotional codes system, so KeepCup can generate codes for particular marketing campaigns, and users enter these at the point of purchase to receive a percentage discount. Other feature of the KeepCup solution include; a ‘Buddy’ system, a Region selection (to provide a custom experience depending on each user’s geographic location, as well as PayPal to accompany the main e-commerce payment process. Lava also worked closely with KeepCup, to provide a central database that is used by both the main website, as well as being referenced by KeepCup’s internal CRM.
Lava is incredibly proud of the KeepCup solution. Rather than roll out a conventional e-commerce site, KeepCup has fully and embraced a much more significant, and truly integrated site that benefits both users and enables streamlined business processes to facilitate orders, and manage its offering.
