The Brief

Kids Promotions is one of Lava’s flagship projects of 2011. A family owned and operated company, since 2001 they have held the national touring license for ABC TV’s Play School Live shows, resulting in over 2000 live shows. Other touring licenses include for Bananas In Pyjamas, and Laga’aia's Jay’s Place.

Lava was thrilled to work with Kids Promotions on their new site, which is an extensive and highly custom digital solution. The site acts as the central place for their audience to search for and purchase event tickets. A key to the project was to fold in their existing extensive membership database into a new improved online format, and give this audience tangible benefits to their membership.

This project required significant scoping by Lava in close consultation with the client, as it now forms the heart of their event and membership management. Beyond the public aspect of the website, a substantial back-end online system was required, to enable the client to self maintain the site, and centralize the management of things like online and phone bookings, ticket pools and more!

Lava’s Solution

Lava’s design commenced with a refinement of the Kids Promotions branding. We retained the child character elements, as these are very recognizable, but with a simpler presentation and new fonts. Lava went for a beautiful and immersive visual presentation for the website interface, using colourful pastel colours along with playful illustrations. These animate subtly throughout.
The Homepage is used to showcase feature events, and users can also search for full event listings via the ‘What’s On’ section. Kids Promotions can add event descriptions and video trailers (if available), and once the user has found an event of interest, they use integrated Google Maps to identify locations and session times. Lava feels this feature is a stand out in our development. Users can then make a selection and process through an integrated payment process.

Other features of the website include; a merchandise store, the ability to associate merchandise with events (if you like this event, then you might like this merchandise), Lava’s integrated online advertising system, and gift vouchers. Users can also register as members, to receive tangible benefits such as pre-release tickets, discounted tickets, and saving data entry when purchasing.

Lava has built an extensive and highly integrated back-end online admin system. This enables editing of the site, such as adding new events and session times, and merchandise items. The back-end is where all orders are received and processed, and Kids Promotions has additional functionality such as the ability to create ticket pools and setup group bookings. This is where the member database resides, and Lava went to great lengths to migrate 35,000 current site members.

Lava is immensely proud of this solution, and we thank Kids Promotions for being a terrific collaborator on this project, which has certainly hit its potential!
