Sticks Winery w/ HeineJones
The site is programmed in .NET, with a CMS back-end so Sticks can maintain the content (e.g. adding News, updating products). A cart enables customers to make their selections and purchase wine securely via credit card. Distribution fees are reflective of the region of each user. Transactions are processed via the eMatters gateway into a NAB internet merchant account. It is a seamless, highly integrated solution.
The Brief
Everyone wants to buy wine online!
Sticks Winery required a complete visual refresh of their website, to create something really distinct and personable, avoiding the stereotypical ‘classic’ winery look and feel. Graphic design was handled by our good friends at HeineJones Design, with Lava providing all technical development and overall coordination. Sticks wanted the new site to be current, and to serve as a profitable business tool via an e-commerce shop, and an e-newsletter system.
The project presented a terrific excuse for us to ‘research’ the product extensively.
Lava's Solution
Great photos of the Sticks team and winery were combined with some terrific freehand styled illustrations, giving the site a real buzz and personality. Lava programmed the main interface using HTML techniques, but also utilised subtle Flash animations to bring the design to life.

For the really passionate wine buffs, Lava created a way for them to keep in touch with the latest news at Sticks via an HTML Sticks e-newsletter. A database is sourced via subscription forms on the front-end of the site, including the ability to select areas of particular interest (e.g. general news, reds, specials, events @ Sticks, etc.). Sticks can then compose newsletters via the Lava e-News Builder product, onto a sexy template, then disseminate as a batch. In Marketing 101 jargon, this is the ‘push’ strategy to drive traffic to the site and shop.
